I had taken these photos to help me go thru the making a mandala step by step for my class. Thought I would post them here for anyone who is interested. Sorry they ended up in reverse order!
Robin this is so cool to see your process. it really is the best when you see your work on the black background..it really makes the colors pop! what pens or do you use colored pencils for them?
And do you make up your own designs as of what you will decide to put where..Curious to know.
Thanks Glenn! Thanks Laura! The line work in this is gold gel pen. The color is all prismacolor colored pencil. Some white accents were added with white gel pen. I do make up the designs but I don't really plan them in advance other than maybe having a "theme" in mind. I just start with something in the middle and work out from there sort of layer by layer. It's fun to do and always a surprise to see how they turn out!
P.S. The grid/guidelines I draw are done with a white charcoal pencil as they are pretty easy to erase later. You have to erase very gently on black paper and I use a magic rub for that part.
Too cool! I've always wondered how you created these and now I have a small understanding. Thanks for sharing your process. You do such beautiful work.
Wow, Robin! Jan shared your artwork with me, and I've loved seeing how it 'came to be.' Wonderful! I bet your classes would be fun to attend!! You are very talented!!!
